I was coming late this morning from a small job over in mentor ohio in my cage, saw what has to be the stupidest thing i have ever seen an l.e.o. do. i was heading south on I71, just past the w150th st exit. as you pass that exit you go up a grade and make an easy left turn. well, after i go thru the turn, i see a bike go across all 4 lanes of traffic, at about a 90 degree angle!!! now, even tho it was a sunday morning, there was still moderate traffic, and i saw LOTS of brake lights. so he gets to the left berm, and he proceeds to go NORTH on the left SOUTHBOUND berm!!! WTF??? when i passed him that was when i realized it was a motor cop on a clevelend pd road king. i can't imagine what could have been going thru this clown's head to endanger both himself and other motorists. and to go the wrong way on the left berm? just absolute stupidity.
Probably the fastest way to respond to an emergency and somewhere in their motorcycle patrol procedures. DOES sound a bit wreckless though! At least everyone else was paying attention.
Maybe a life threatening situation was happening just at that moment and he was the closest Unit to respond. We sometimes do things (and are allowed by law) that would not be legal for other people to do just for those reasons and many times risk our lives to do something that could "possibly" save someone elses life.
NOW! I totally agree with you about risking other peoples safety even in emergency situations! Sounds like what he did was wrong and he took a big chance. Glad you or noone else hurt him or got hurt by a momentary bonehead move he may have made in a lapse of better judgement. All I can say is we're people too.
(Thought the Krispy Kream truck joke was kinda funny too!! LOL!!)
I have see the CHP do even stranger things in Los Angeles.........he no doubt had a serious emergency back behind you and that stretch of road has no place to turn around until you get South of the Ford Plant complex which is several miles down the freeway past the bridge.
