Default Removing Sissy Bar Question.

After removing the sissy bar on an 89 sporty are there any washers or something that need to go in between the fender and frame where the sissy bar uprights were? Its seams like an awful gap where the sissy bar upright was to bolt the fender to the upper frame. Seems like washers the thickness of the uprights should be installed on reassembly. All I have is a softail repair manual and I can't find anything online to show me the rear fender installation without a sissy bar.

see if this looks familiar - only shows diagrams of Sportsters in the 90's, but may give an idea of what you need. ?

Hey thats a nice little website, thanks for the link. From the diagram on the site it doesn't look like there are any spacers, but its also not showing the frame, so I'm still unsure. I know someone else with an 88 sporty, but they still have the sissy bar mounted and it also mounts on the inside of the fender support same as the 89. Actually it mounts inside of the frame right next to the fender itself. Just seems like there should be some sort of spacer without the sissy bar on. Hopefully someone on here with the same rear fender setup without a sissy bar can help me out with this.

There shouldn't be any change between fender and frame .

Can you post a pic so we can see exactly what you're dealing with ?
