To me it is pretty hard to beat Good Sam Emergency road service. $99 a year. Good for all your immediate family and good for all your vehicles including Motorcycles! You do not have to have an RV, but if you do and break down they may even send 2 tow trucks to get your rig. They have agreements with tow services all over the US and are really quick to respond. Ever run out of gas with your scoot? When it happens it is usually out in the middle of nowhere. Just call the 800 number and they will bring you 5 gallons and you do not even have to pay for the gas, let alone the service! (Don't ask me how I know that.) You do not have to fork out any $$ upfront or after for a tow, ever. They will take you and your vehicle(s), including a motorcycle to the nearest repair facility and get you to safety. To me it is probably the best bang for your buck for emergency service anywhere!!!
As others here have suggested, get the upgraded HOG coverage. In addition to that I also upgraded my AAA Plus to AAA/RV. When I needed a tow AAA could not get me a qualified MC rig, so the rep on the phone told me to hire any tow service of my choice and AAA will reimburse me the cost. That's what I did and within 3 weeks AAA sent me a check. The amount of money they charged you was nothing short of rape, so I doubt if you would get full reimbursment. But something is better than nothing. Location has alot to do with just how well HOG or AAA can help you which is why I have both. If one craps out I have the other to back up.
...I for one never ride on spoke and tube wheels and tires, because if you have the
aboveproblem in this post with tubless tires, you just pull out the air pump and plug
kit and go along on your marry way in about 10 minutes. Then you can replace the
tire when you have time!
That really sucks. Perhaps you were over 100 miles from the tow trucks location and they didn't want to go all the way out to your location and not get paid. Or the guys were busy watching football or something and didn't want to come out and get you. Figure you would say never mind when they told you the price.
Yes, on tubeless tires. And, of course that depends on the severity of the leak and it's location on the tire. A large gash in the sidewall is obviously not repairable, however a simple nail hole in the center of the tread is.
A true 'blowout' (where the tire comes apart) at 70 mph, would have caused a bit more excitement.

The Moral to the story, Don't live and ride in NY. I've had a 70 plus MPH blow out and waited 3.5 hours for the flatbed to show. Couple of cage drivers came buy and gave me cold beer while I waited. Riders (notice I didn't say Bikers) rode by and waved. Needless to say, I waved back with my favorite day of the week finger.
YOU REALLY need to look into putting some RIDE ON tire sealant. Specially formulated for aluminum wheels. It is guaranteed to NOT harm or hurt the wheel. It can also be washed out of the tire later if for some reason you need to take your tire off.I had two tires on my 4 wheeler that kept going flat from thorn stickers and such. Put that into all four tires and never had to fill the tire again.
