I was there on Friday and Saturday. It was a mob scene on Saturday. Everywhere was packed. It was hard to find a place to park on Beach and Main Street. The Tomoka Loop was full, it was like riding in a parade. The week usually builds starting on the Wednesday before the last weekend and then it's even more crowded if you can believe. Since Bike Week and Spring Break are overlapping this year it's been pretty interesting.
That's why I quit going 20 years ago. Crowds, no parking, mob scene, etc. To each his own, but to me that adds up to stress....not fun. I'd rather spend my hard-earned time off riding cool roads at 80mph and stopping at little joints here and there.
Blah! Crowds/Lines/Parade traffic! Blah!
I went down to Fla. during bike week and decided to shoot over to the panhandle from Atlanta instead. Rode the entire perimeter of Fla. instead and loved every minute of it. No lines, no traffic, no waiting for nuttin.
Never understood the desire to be in the middle of such a clusterf*.
That's why I go over for biketoberfest. Not as crowded (cheaper hotel rates) but still a lot going on and it's a nice ride over there from Sarasota.
The Leesburg rally the beginning of april is a good time also.

I've been to Biketoberfest more times than bike week. It is less crowded which makes it more tolerable. But now, I am about over the whole scene. The endless bumper to bumper traffic is not my idea of fun. I just wonder how much all that sitting in traffic ages our poor overheated air cooled engines. That "parade" mode is more suited to water cooled bikes- (perish the thought). I agree with previous posters. I prefer to ride on uncrowded secondary roads out in the country. That said, I have enjoyed some brews while eyeballing the lovely ladies on main street....but I think I might go by car if there is a next time....

Most of my riding is solo. Most of my riding is on open roads. I do lots of long solo trips.
But:
I love the rallies. The sights, the sounds, the smoke and smell of oil, barbecue, beer and exhaust. Like a carnival when I was a kid.
I love meeting people and laughing for a few minutes and knowing I'll never see them again. I love meeting people and seeing them next year or in a different place.
Love the heavy traffic and the stop and go on Main St. I love the thousands of bikes all taking the same routes I do and packing the parking lots along the way.
I love the women and party atmosphere.
I love the fact that hundreds of thousands of people meet in one town, once a year, to enjoy the thing we all love.
Laconia, Daytona, Sturgis, Great excuses for some great rides.
Be leaving Thursday AM for Daytona. Only get to do three days this year.
