I've had my bikes bike out doing well over 85 mph and if I did that I would have to really hit some revs between gears. Can't say I've even tried going over 75 normally like on the hiway only because there was no need. My wife has no problem going all day long keeping up to the rest of us at 70.

Good advice! Though many may argue with this fact with you.

I have a Ninja 250 and the performance on the 883 sounds actually similar to what I get.

Talk my wife on a ratty 440 kawasaki , then sent her to a course and then introduced her to her 883. No problems, she's a natural rebel.

My bone stock 05 883XL would zip up to 80 no problem. My only complaint was that it would be at 3500 rpm with the 5 speed. Top speed was just over 100. Get a tune up and rejet for that thing.

What does that have to do with the price of beans in China? My bud has a Nighttrain,my old boss a road king and a stretched full custom and I have drove them all day and another an Ultra and I prefer my Sportster. As a matter of fact my bud with the NT misses his 1200C alot now....the only problem with him is he is 6'4" so he felt cramped........

There is no arguing that the center of gravity is higher on the Sporty. As a new rider you have no idea of what to look for in a bike. My first bike was a sporty and that's what I learned on. Never realized how hard it was to ride until I got my Fat boy. There is a huge difference in handling. I still have my sporty and love riding it around town. I think that his girlfriend should pick out what she likes and not just get a sporty because it's lighter and smaller. If I had to do it all over again I would have started on something smaller for a couple of months and got what I really enjoyed riding.
