Bike runs at 3000rpm at 80mph in 6th gear. How can I bring it to around 2600rpm at 80mph? Will it involve transmission work, engine work or both?

You'd do it in the primary and final drive but....WHY? It's geared pretty much perfectly right now. If you drop 400 rpms at 80 mph you're gonna have squat for low end grunt.

It seems to be too wound out at 80mph and up. On major hiways like I10 or I45 around Houston you get run over if not at those speeds, but most of my riding is not on those type of roads, so if the changes would not translate positively thru all of the gear structure then I guess its best to just leave it alone.

At 3000 RPM that bike hasn't even hit it's stride yet...I wouldn't change anything as has been said, it will totally mess up your bottom end.

Put little stonk in that engine and you'll be glad it has the stock gearing...

My bike doesn't seem wound out at all in 6th gear at 80.or even 90.It's a good thing your aren't riding an older 88cu.in.with only 5 gears, you'd really be freaking out.

You're still right in the power band at that RPM, I'm no expert but that wouldn't bother me at all.
