Perhaps you should have thought, 1st, before writing this beauty. It is our DUTY to resist oppression and all laws restricting our freedoms unnecessarily.

More laws restricting our freedoms mean more LE to uphold those laws means a bigger, fatter government and a greater burden on every taxpayer and citizen.

I always have worn a helmet, since getting my 1st MC more than 40 years ago. But I support freedom of choice.

f I choose not to wear a helmet I am not a danger to anyone but myself.
I used to believe that completely, until I considered that it is a danger to someone who might kill you accidentally. which could happen even with a helmet, but the chances of surviving are higher with a helmet. I don't think we have the right to fail to protect ourselves on even the most basic level of wearing a helmet if it turns a minor mistake on a driver's part into a life altering incident where they have to, at the very least, live with our death on their hands.

Either way, whether you buy into that or not, I don't think that we have the right to anything on the public roadways, and I wear a helmet all the time anyway. I don't see this as an issue of freedom at all, for any of us, any more than having to have taillights or an inspection sticker is a violation of freedom.

I know that's unpopular, and I think I made my point, though most of you disagree.

And one more time, you don't even have the right to ride a motorcycle on public roadways, so this is not an issue of freedom at all, technically.

And no one learns how to drive anymore. Why bother the car will protect you. Hell, Honda is developing a seatbelt for the Goldwing. Guess that will proctect us too.

Combatting political correctness is my mission.
Why don't I have the right to bare arms ? (rhetorical question for you flamers)
Why can't I explore the Ice Cave just cause someone got hurt in them the powers to be dynamited them closed so never to be seen by anyone ever again.
God gave me life.... Let me live it !!!
God gave me this Earth.... Let me see it !!!
MY WAY.
If I crash & burn and the PTB don't want to pay my medical bills, so be it. Should be my choice. At least I'd be dying MY WAY.

Default Personal choice??? Maybe, but read on...

I've been riding for 30+ years and I have heard both sides of the debate. You can say it's a personal choice, BUT there is a very valid point that if you choose to ride without a helmet and you don't have adequate insurance, then we all will end up paying for your poor decision when you are turned in to a drooling, mumbling blob. There are those who claim that a helmet will not prevent you from being killed in a motocycle accident. Maybe in some circumstances, this is true, BUT, I have to disagree. My experience is one that disproves that theory. It also disproves the theory that most accidents are caused by automotible drivers who are not paying attention. Thank God, that in my years of riding, I have only once laid one down. I was riding along a winding blacktop when I rounded a curve, so my sight distance was limited. This was back in the day when they "oiled" dirt roads to keep the dust down. Apparently the truck that was laying down the oil just turned out on to the blacktop road and either forgot to shut the oil spray off, or it malfunctioned and continued to lay a nice, fresh coat of oil down on the black top. Obviously, this did NOT end well for me. When I finally came to a stop, a large spot on my helmet had been ground right down to the foam. Had that been my bare head, I would not be writing this today. This had nothing to do with another vehicle, at least not one spraying oil all over the road. Other than the burns from the rivets on my jeans, I was OK. It's not always about the "other guy". Just last year, someone in our local HOG chapter sadly died from his injuries. He survived the crash, but his closed head injuries got him a few days later. What happened? He blew a rear tire on the Interstate. He was NOT wearing a helmet. Nuff said?

Anyone stupid enough to fly down the road at 70MPH with no helmet had better have really good insurance OR a pre-planned funeral. I speak from experience. This is not about restricting personal choice. It's about being responsible and preventing you from becoming MY problem. Will a helmet prevent you from being killed? It's no guarantee, BUT if you break an arm or leg, you will recover. If you break your head, well, what do you think?

Anyone that thinks the government should force all bikers to wear a helmet... just because they do.... is a rub

I always dislike the genuine concern shown here by the idiots worrying about the medical bills and long term care cost for taking care of slobbering idiots who hit their heads while not wearing a helmet riding a motorcycle. Your not concerned with their safety---just your greedy slice of the pie. I admire the misguided who think they can make the world bubble wrap safe. The problem with accepting that some people need regulations to guide their choices in personal self protection is that knowing politicians----where would it stop? Would it be a genuine concern for safety or just a paid for lobby effort to help an insurance company bottom line. I love my dogs more then I like most people.

I don't think that's really true, I think it is just a counter argument for the people who base their anti-helmet law stance on the idea that it doesn't affect anyone except them.

I don't buy the fallacious slippery slope argument. We've required inspections and licenses for cars for YEARS and YEARS and so far I don't see people having to do anything further to drive on the public roadways. I bet when they first mandated licenses, someone said "if we let them make us get licenses, where will it stop!?"

Well, it stopped with license, inspection, and registration.
