ou lose a little defensive riding capabllity for more protection for your head.
That's just your opinion. I don't lose ANY defensive riding capability because of my helmet.
Always wearing a helmet is as bad as never wearing one.
That's completely false.
There is a reason that a lot of states saw fewer fatalities after repealing their helmet laws. There is no doubt that people were killed because they were wearing helmets that interfered with their vision and hearing.
You are going to have to prove that, because I think it is nonsense.
this idea that helmets are dangerous is complete propaganda.
Freedom of choice is not involved in riding on public roads in all 50 states. The fact that it is a privilege has been established by court precedence and litigation for decades now.
Again, that is the case law in all fifty states. Groups or individuals can go to their state legislators and get laws to allow riding without helmets.
This was the case in Illinois in the 70's. There was the largest gathering in the Capital ever before or since to get the legislation passed.
But riders do need to understand that there is no freedom of choice on public roads in all of the states. Organize and get the vote out is the only way.
If you have freedom of choice then why not go without license plates, drivers license, insurance, speeding or drunk as a skunk. It is because you don't have freedom of choice. In Illinois a operator can get a DUI anywhere within the state borders. Spinning around in your back yard drunk can result in a DUI.
Many don't understand we are a nation of laws. **** and moan all you want the only thing that results in what you want is a law to allow it.
So a helmet and bike are designed to work together in an accident like seat belts, air bags and crumple zones!! I always hear helmets and seat belts being compared, I just want to know.
Agree 100%. And just for the record...I wear a helmet. But dammit if I have a day where I wanna ride down to the tex-mex joint and have dinner on my bike, I think its my business whether I wear a helmet or not...I mean I've never seen a helmet not do a number on a woman's hair. LOL.
Haha for sure. And I wear a helmet as well, but it is due to the law. It is just a novelty helmet, but it prevents me from getting pulled over.
So a helmet and bike are designed to work together in an accident like seat belts, air bags and crumple zones!! I always hear helmets and seat belts being compared, I just want to know.
OF COURSE THEY DO!!!! It will stop you from going through the windshield or slamming into the steeringwh- Oh wait... But as for seatbelts... I know of a girl that fell asleep when her mom was driving. They got in a wreck and it took her head off. I don't support seatbelt laws either.
well some of you had some great arguements both for or against i want to be able to make the choice myself that is for sure and i wear a helmet most of the time. this situation happened to a budy and his wife and i dont know any numbers on this but the helmet is the listed cause of death as the neck and lower skull seperation caused by the added weight of the helmet (same thing that caused the death of nascar driver Dale Earnhardt) that being said the most likley would have died anyway. i do believe we should protect children also so a child wearing one i dont have much issue with that or under 18 minors i make my children wear theirs anyway.i am a believer of my ability to choose whats best for me and yes some times that requires me to educate myself as we all should no matter what the issue is with in reason (i shouldnt be able to rob a bank because its get me money or murder someone cause i dont agree with them ). i think the helmet issue for any state is a hot potato that is why the laws keep getting passed and repealed i have seen some data that shows it a wash over all the only real place you see a clear arguement for helmets is under 35 mph but the data also see shows most motorcycle accident occure above 45 mph. (insurance institue is the source of my data)
I'm an avid helmet wearer, and not the stupid half helmets that barely count anyway. I wear a fullface helmet every time I ride. When I wrecked my helmet scraped across the ground and put a big rub mark on it from my chin to the back of my head.

Not all motorcycle accidents or deaths happen at 70mph. Many low speed accidents would be very survivable without long term problems. And if your going 120mph, well, that's your own stupidity.
I still believe helmets should be a choice. But do get tired of hearing the same lame old excuses. I put these types of excuses right up there with the crowd that says that seat belts are dangerous cause they might get jammmed in an accident. So yes, lets fight to keep the right of choice, but if we're going to argue about it, lets use a little logic and common sense.
I never said all accidents happen at 70 MPH. And I agree with you that helmets do save lives at lower speeds, I am living proof. Crashed at 60 MPH and had my helmet on and I'm here to type this today. I had a concussion. But less damage was done in part because I had my helmet on. Now, I think it should be a personal decision that I am allowed to make as to whether or not I wanna wear one. Where we disagree is about common sense. Maybe I don't have any common sense. Maybe it is stupid to tell people that most of the time at highway speeds, a helmet isn't gonna save their life. Or maybe I'm just being a realist. I simply believe that people should be aware that wearing a helmet does not make them bullet proof. As for seatbelts, my feelings are the same. Its a choice. Not wearing one, only hurts you, and no one else. As for using logic, it's a forum, I think all opinions are welcome regardless of how illogical they are! I'm still smiling, hope you are too.
I (almost) always wear a helmet. It is by choice (kind of). I have to make tge choice if wether my family gets a sizable life insurance check or just lose one source of income. If I get killed riding without a helmet on, my life insurance won't pay a dime. For those of you not aware of this check your policy, page by page most of them have that clause hidden in there somewhere.
