I've installed a Frog AC and Frog 2-1 exhaust and i have zero popping on decel.. only the original gurgle on the decel coast down. I did have her pop on me the other day after running it for a very short time to let a co-worker hear the new exhaust. when i fired it back up to roll out, she popp'ed pretty good, i chalked it up to a loaded up/rich exhaust. That is how i always understood backfire/pop to be.. excess fuel in the exhaust lighting off.. could be wrong though.
Decel popping is destroying your bike every time you let off the throttle.
Decel popping is normal, baffels in the pipes can quiet it down though.
Decel popping can be tuned out but it sets your A/F ratio too high.
Decel popping can be tuned out but it sets your A/F ratio too low.
After reading all the threads about decel popping on this forum I'm half blind and in every thread you get a lot of different opinions. I have not figured it out but my bike runs great and I hear a little.
ok so I get no decel pop at all,my bike runs great, when it's cold or every once in a great while I get a little backfire/pop upon acceleration in 1st,but if I twist the throttle a touch more it is gone, and if the bike is really warmed up I have none. Should I worry? The bike runs great and gets good fuel mileage?
I have a carb, Slip-On Cycle Shacks/Dragtron II & K&N filter/Jetted,forgot size but have it marked down somewhere.....

Just ran my bike this past weekend with stage 1 complete. New mufflers sound great! I do feel a bit more power and I do get some gurgling on decel and maybe a little popping. Overall it sounds good. Asked dealer about the popping before install and they said it is normal and expected.
My '04 Deuce pops, gurgles, cracks all the time on decel. Been doing it since the baffles were taken out of the V&H short shots years ago (no stage 1). Just turned over 45,000 miles and all is well with the Deuce. Battery, tires, fluids and a clutch cable replaced. The Deuce is one fine Harley Davidson. Dealer suggested a stage 1 but I told him no because it is normal for a Harley to do that. lol
