How much "pop" is normal/acceptable
Main reason I installed that stuff was because of the performance aspect (and yes I know pulling the baffles out of pipes decreases low end performance, but it sounds sweet as hell at idle and at WOT). After everything was installed I realized that it looked pretty sweet as well.
I have had my bike dyno tuned and it still pops ocassionally, does that mean that it isn't tuned correctly...i don't think so. It the type of pipes I have that makes the popping/gurgling more audible

Decel popping is normal, baffels in the pipes can quiet it down though.
Decel popping can be tuned out but it sets your A/F ratio too high.

After reading all the threads about decel popping on this forum I'm half blind and in every thread you get a lot of different opinions. I have not figured it out but my bike runs great and I hear a little.
I am amazed at the absolute range of opinions... some say "its all good" others say "holy ****".. and both say the other "has no idea what they are talking about"

for the record, I am running V&H Short Slots, with SE Intake.. no tuner.. I get decel popping and gurgling. I am so confused as to whether the popping is bad or not, that I clutch when I roll off the throttle, so I don't hear it...
"But it Pops when I Blip the throttle"
Don't Blip the friggin throttle!
My bike is dyno tuned by JD's. Bike runs great, plugs are a good color, good gas mileage. If I Blip, I pop occasionally, rarely I get a faint pop on upshift.
Point is, these things go POP.
Backfire or pinging is another story.

Decel popping becomes more apparent after I leave my house to the first corner when downshifting (bike is warmed up)
I notice that rolling off the throttle stops it a little!
If I agressively downshift it pops!
I clutch when I roll past the police station and the sign that states "Noise Ordinance Strictly Enforced"!
But..all in all..sometimes I'd like to hear the same throaty rumble coming down as I do on the way up!
I have no idea when I could do a stage 1.
Am I correct to presume that I can get away with installing just an A/C for now?
Exhaust leaks,...check your nuts...
Not rolling off the throttle completely... Next time you are rolling down a hill, let off the throttle like you normally do, then try rolling the throttle 100% closed and see if there is a difference.
Often it is your riding style that gives you decel pop.
Like others have said, a little pop is not critical, but backfiring is an issue, if it sounds like a 44 mag as someone said earlier, I would fix that.

when mine popped all the way down the rpm's with a boom once in a while it was a air leak.

Damn..sounding like a 44 mag? Sure as hell hope it never gets to that!
Thanks for the response!

Gurgle on downshift is normal, a bang like a gun being fired is not (that's what I consider a decel pop). Please contact me if anyone has specific tuning questions.
