Yesterday I had a new open face helmet with no visor arrive - took it for a run on the bike and found the wind noise so bad that at 50 mph I could not hear the exhaust and after 10 miles my ears were ringing. Is this normal for an open face helmet ?
When I switch to my 3/4 from a FF, I hear more engine noise. Wind doesn't seem to bother me though. I have the HD 1/2 shield on there to keep my eyes from watering, so maybe it cut down on some of the wind noise.
I haven't used or seen a helmet that didn't have wind noise on a bike without a windshield. Even with a windshield there will be some wind noise. The only thing I could suggest is wear ear plugs. A good fit is important with wearing a helmet.
Wind is not only loud but is bad for your hearing. I use plugs when I ride. It is a little harder to hear the radio, but worth is as hearing loss over the years from the wind is not.

I usually ride with a 1/2 and as you would expect from the design, the wind noise is pretty bad so I use ear plugs. Last year I got a Bell 500, which is a 3/4 and it's much quieter. No ear plugs needed. It's possible that your helmet doesn't fit quite right or the design is not good for your head shape.

What ? Say again can't hear you !! ............
Wouldn't know a thing about hearing loss due to straight pipes & a gazzilion miles on a bike , gunfire & large capacity magazines , explosions , stuff like that . Nope not a thing .
