Default Windshield question.

I have a 2010 fxdc. When I bought it they installed an HD compact quick release windshield. I have found I get a lot of wind turbulence around and from under the windshield. I have adjusted it in about every position I can and still is bad.

Prior to this bike I had a Yamaha with a Memphis Shades Fats 21". On that bike I was looking through the windshield, not over it and it was great. Very little wind and great vision.

Do any of you have any experience with the Fats 21" on a Dyna?

I am 6'2" and sitting on a Mustang Classic Wide seat.

You are about to enter Windshield Hell, fasten your seatbelt and hold on to your hat.

Good luck to you sir,
Mike

I'm going to give you my result after many, many years of trial and error. This is the only decent windshield made for a Softail or a Dyna; Windvest. You don't have to listen but, over the years, I spent tons of money to figure this out. Go in peace.

If I was going to run a windshield on my Rocker, it would be a Winvest.
I'd have to make up some mounting brackets though.
Saw them last year at the Laughlin River Run and liked the look.

Maybe not the seatbelt, but... there is no one good answer. Like I hate winvest but you can see others like them. Sometimes the wind head banging is something else all together, like your helmet. I bought my first ever windshield last year from the dealer and loved it. This year, something is beating the **** out of my head. Try "search" here. About a million answers. Good lucck.

I've got a 19" Memphis Shades windshield, and I was getting a lot of wind buffeting comming up from under the sheild. I don't think any make of shield is going to stop this, because the windshield will cause a low pressure area behind it, causing air from underneath to rush in to replace it. It's just how things work.
A couple of weeks ago I installed a set of the Harley lower wind deflectors (chrome fang type) on my forks, and I first got to try it out yesterday.

I can't believe the difference they made. Before when I was riding, there was always wind around my chest and head, but if I laid my arm across my chest, it would block it and it would be calm. I tried laying my arm across my chest riding with the fangs, and I can't tell the differnce. It is so much calmer behind the shield.

I think my bike looks better without the fangs, but I don't care. They seem to work great so they are staying on there.

If you can't get lower wind deflectors from Harley for your bike, you could try a set from Memphis shades. They come in several colors as well as clear.
I'll bet they will solve your problem.
Or you could try one of these. http://www.jacksflaps.com

Indeed, "About a million answers.".
I threw out my Harley windshield but for others it works fine. Some people have not been able to make ANY windshield work.
I think all windshields look like crap, I just put it on to block the wind, some people like the look of their windshields.
I think Windvest looks like the most invisable solution, others hate the Windvest, looks aside, I've found mine works best with Memphis Shades lowers and a fork bag.
If you wear a helmet, the type of helmet you wear has an effect on how much the wind bothers you.
Every brand and type of windshield that is liked my some does not work for others. Threads starting with "windshield", "which windshield", "new windshield" rarely end up with a simple answer.
If the wind is noisy and your vision is blurred a search using the term "buffeting" is your gateway to Windshield Hell, it's right next to Oil Hell.

Again, good luck sir,
Mike

make sure the windshield is the correct height. the top of the windshield should be level with the tip of your nose. i cut my windshield to get the correct height and made a thread about it. it's here somewhere. there is also a video on youtube showing you how to get the right height and cutting the shield. getting the shield to the right height made a world of difference, but i do still have some buffeting, but no where near what it was. my next step is to but the lowers on it. i found if i put my feet up on the crash bar it all but eliminates the buffeting, proving that the air is coming up around the tank.
