LLoud obnoxious bikes

1. People that don't like or appreciate loud pipes are going to their representatives and lobbying for action, and they're getting it.
2. Noise abatement laws are being enacted.
3. Those laws are drawing the attention of the police to those that run loud pipes and to bikers in general.
We have several ways to combat this:
1. Pony up the cash for several peer-reviewed studies that support, with facts and figures, the belief that loud pipes save lives.
2. Speak louder, more often, and in greater numbers to our representatives than the anti-loud pipe groups do.
3. Police ourselves, get away from excessively loud pipes and behavior some feel is inconsiderate, and develop our own standards before others do it for us.
Factually, failure to address this is only going to result in greater law enforcement attention and greater restriction. If we don't handle it, someone's going to do it for us.
Feel free to argue with any of this.
When you enter a bar, or go food shopping, or go to the mall, do you have the need to kick open the door with a loud bang....run in screaming like a banshee, jump up on the bar top and scream out loud "look at me...look at me...look at MEEEEE...I'm big and bada$$ cuz I rode in on a bike and I wear black boots and a leather jacket...look at meeeeee!"....cuz your parents ignored you as a kid?
Same thing applies for when you're on a bike. Read most of the replies in this thread, it shows many mature riders that state they roll gently and quietly where they should, they know where not to make the noise, and they know when they can make it and not disturb others.
Another blessing of the bikes was near me this weekend, lots of bikes gathered and paraded on by heading out to it, 'cuz I live pretty much in between 3 of the larger biker bars in the area. Similar to the local one a few weekends ago. Most people enjoy stopping what they're doing...and sit and watch the bikes parade by, some wave to them. And then there's the inevitable 1 out of every 40 or 50 riders that...has to fall back a bit..to give himself room to goose and and scream forward full throttle til he just about rearends the bike in front of him, and then lets off the throttle...so he can do it all over again. Screaming of "Hey look at meeeeeee!" He's usually the baffle-less one. That's the 'tard that causes everyone to shake their heads, point and laugh AT him, even the other bikers give him a look like "get away from me".
I chuckle at the analogies of dealing with noise of planes by the airport, or trains. Uhm...did someone hold a gun to your head forcing you to buy a house at the end of the runway of an airport? Or right next to train tracks? or next to a major highway? Who failed to research their real estate investment for a good neighborhood? You had a choice, you failed in making a good one. But those people that live in quiet neighborhoods don't have a choice when some riders force their noise upon all others. The whole "I live near an airport and I deal with the noise" argument is irrelevant to this thread.
Ride responsibly, respect others. Within 1 block of my house there are three other Harley households. None of them have stock cigar pipes either, nor do I. Yet they can ride cool.

So, you're really complaining about what 2-2.5 percent (your stats) of the motorcycling population does?
Get over it...........i'm not on this planet to make your life 100% perfect.
Find a REAL problem to bitch about and then do something about IT....................
FYI...I don't run a baffle either. My pipe didn't come with one and it isn't designed for one.
