As a new Harley owner i relate to the OP. Especially after I got some slip ons and more bark. Forum is cool--long time riders make room for us--especially with tech issues and gentle attitude adjustments to teach what it means to them to ride a Harley. Love my machine...and it is saving my soul.

I have a friend of mine that rides, is my age, and he has some big crotch rocket (1100 or so and seriously, this thing is physically larger than my Sportster) and he just doesn't get why people love their Harley's so much. His Dad rides a Harley, his Uncles ride Harleys, His sister loves Harleys but him, not so much. He rode my Sportster once and, naturally, said it felt way under powered (was also an 883 at the time though I doubt the 1200 would have been only margninally better).

Maybe someday he will give them a real chance and see the difference. Not saying he has the wrong bike or shouldn't ride what he likes, but to me there is a distinct difference between the two. Maybe he's just not ready to cruise...still wanting to live life at 100 miles an hour.

The bike didn't change my attitude on life, my attitude on life lead me to the bike.

I'm no different than I was before, on my sportbike, I'm in for the fun factor, which is how I ended up owning an XR. When I'm ready to upgrade bikes, if HD no longer offers the XR or a comparable bike of fun, I won't be buying a harley.

The feeling I get when I get on my new bike is a feeling of relaxation, freedom along with a general D.G.A.F. attitude... all in all it's a great feeling!
Got my first HD in 2005 and it happened again yesterday---after thinking about it for a while, it happens every time I take it out. Imagine that!

I have to agree with you guys. I feel younger when riding. After 4-5 weeks out on the road in a Semi the first thing I want to do after riding Ma Ma is go out and ride for an hour or two on the bike solo just to un wind.
