Default Loud Pipes Crackdown in BC

The RCMP in Nanaimo have announced they're cracking down on loud motorcycle exhaust on the Island.

Coincidentally, it coincides with the arrival of a large contingent of HA.

I can't imagine their testing method holding up in court.

That's probably why they are writing "inspection notices" rather than tickets. I don't think that you can dispute an "inspection notice" in court. Just pay the $180.00 to the testing facility and take your bike back to the cop shop.

I've been hearing about the "inspection notice" BS. Thankfully they don't have that here, just $250 tickets. The majority of cases are winning in court here, and there's a pivotal court case coming up at the end of the month that may see an end to the harassment... or at least a reprieve.

You have beautiful country up there, but I'll never vacation up there again. In 05 we went skiing at Whistler. We drove up from Seattle. A six pack of beer was $15 (($6 in WI.) When I complained to a Canadian, he told me it was the "Sunshine Tax". When I said "What’s that?", he said people would pay more taxes to live in BC cause it had nicer weather than the other provinces.

My kids mentioned to some teenagers that beer was a lot cheaper in WI, and they said "Yeah, that's why we smoke dope instead." Good government policy there.

WTF. You need a tea party up there! Maybe we should start a North American Beer Party and take over both governments.

Default It wouldn't be so bad if they wouldn't lie so blatantly

86db at 50% throttle (what a friggin crock) The police bikes are 92db at 2500 rpm six feet behind the tail pipes. I hate it when these goofs lie like this. And people are convicted based on evidence from these guys.

I know I feel safer knowing that police resources are being used for the really important stuff. Wait till they're allowed to ticket you a grand for jay walking. All the mounties will be staked out on the corners. lol.

I see the HD noise standard is a drive by test which makes more sense to me. I have no issue with testing for noise as long as it includes cars, trucks, mc, etc. The problem most of these tests will have in court is with the noise standard/instrument being used.

I believe the Federal standard in Canada is 91 DB or less, but don't know how the test is to be done. I think the US has a similar standard.

I heard how the tests are performed is what is getting challenged in court, should be the equivilant distance from the road to the steps of joe citizens home, not 2' behind the pipes.

I've been hearing a lot about the Noise Snare that Calgary is planning on using. It measures the sound from a distance of all vehicles as they pass, and if they're over a limit a ticket will be issued. It sounds like a photo radar version of noise enforcement.

The Noise Snare was invented by a guy from Edmonton, and the city considered it, but went with the J2825 standard measurements. They had an opportunity to use a technology for all vehicles, but went out of their way to choose a company from California rather than Edmonton to provide the technical consulting and training.

Edmonton city council and EPS obviously wanted to target motorcycles.

Here's a video of the Noise Snare in action:
