Mine warms up while I'm gearing up. Then I'll take it easy for the first couple of miles.

no, he's right. 200 thousandths is the same as 2 tenths, which is one fifth.... maybe he meant, 20 thousandths? or 2 thousandths....

About a minute or so. EFI makes it run fine when just started. I give it about 1 minute in my driveway before I take off..just to get the insides wet with oil. I putt putt down my driveway...and take it easy on the throttle for the first 1/2 mile or so...and ease into higher revs for the next 1/2 mile or so til I'll allow my self to really wind her out.

When I do winter rides....like below freezing, and it has maybe been 3 or 4 weeks since she ran last...I'll let her warm up for 3-4 minutes before heading out.

No I didn't : .200 = .20 = .2 = 1/5 of an inch....It grows alot! That's why I take it easy until totally warm.

I start up and ride however the first 3 miles for me are chip & seal roads with a 25 mph speed limit. By the time I can open it up it's already been 10 minutes or more.

Don't think so.....try 20 thousandths or less, not 200. You might find more believers.

http://www.enginebuildermag.com/Arti..._bolt_use.aspx

" In a typical engine, just warming the engine up to normal operating temperature may stretch the head bolts as much as .005 or more."

http://www.americanrider.com/output.cfm?id=1029349

"A freestanding Evo cylinder grows about 0.040 inch when raised from room to running temperature (70F to 250F). An accomplished engine builder measured total Evo cylinder assembly growth to be 0.060 inch from the base of the cylinder to the top of the valve cover. The same numbers, I'm sure, apply to the Twin Cam engine, as well. While the alloy cylinders and heads grow enough to measure with a ruler, the studs and bolts holding these things together are lengthening only a tenth as much. "

There's spots between the engine and frames of my bikes that don't have a quarter inch of clearance, not to mention the engines in my Triumphs are solid mounted. There's no place for a quarter inch of "expansion" to go to.

After having to replace the rocker box and cylinder base gaskets on a '93 Sportster, l learned to let it warm up for a couple of minutes before heading out.

Don't know if it's really needed on a '02 Heritage, but I still do that on it.
