If you would have left the tassels on, you could get whupped while riding, thus getting two forms of enjoyment, riding and well... uh.... never mind.

RE: Leather Braids
I rode a friend's RK who had just installed with the chrome braided levers with fringe and like the braids (nice grip), except when I went over the causeway and got a nice cross wind and 'POP' the clutch side fringe decided it wanted to be a bull whip. This was OK (thought it was kinda cool actually) until my forearm was the unhappy recepient of the 'POP'... My friend thought it was funny, however a few months later, after a long East-West trip they were soon cut off and left on the side of the road somewhere... (paybacks are hell I hear!!)
Check out the below without fringe...

It sounds like you are talking about window slappers. Bunch of guys in the local club I run around with have 'em. They're long, two feet or more I guess, though I never measured them. They use them to slap cars...none of them ever have though. Some of them carry pellets in their mouth when riding chase...they spit them over their shoulders at cages tail gating the pack.
