There's a thing going on inthe UK at the moment that the police are trying to sort. Two scooters two up targeting bikes parked up. The gang cut the locks and push the bikes away, alarms or not, it makes no difference. There's a van near by and the bikes pushed into the back and whisked away. There was an article about it where the owner had confronted the thieves , only to have a sawn off shot gun shoved in his face. He managed to calorie police but because of the rules and a gun had been seen it was some time before armed police arrived and by then the bike was long gone.
wait, let me get this straight. if a crime is convicted and the perps have guns, the police wait until they are gone to show up? man, strange country you live in......
Dont know how true because a taser does not make you pass out. It make all your muscles tense up to max and you become incapacitaed, loose balance fall down. You know and remember EVERYTHING. Worst a$$ whipping you will ever have unless you get it twice.

My understanding is that only a small number of police in the UK are authorized & trained to carry guns. More than likely, it takes a while to get them to where they need to be.

Not quite. Police in the UK don't routinely carry guns so whilst the nearest armed response team is being deployed to the 'area' unarmed officers are deployed to 'assess' the
situation. Once a fire arm is seen by an officer an armed unit will be fully deployed, that is unless there is possative CCTV evidence of a firearm. In the Force where I work there will usually only be 6 to 8 firearms officers double crewed on the street at any one time, and that's for a large city area
