Bought the Boom system for my RK went to install it. First read the instructions, scratched head, read them again, shook head, read them again. The assembley of parts , no problem, but the wiring was no f'in way. you know a diagram whould have been nice. I hate HDs instructions I have not found any that made sense. frustrated!
I'm assuming that it's just a matter of getting power to the unit so you'd be running a wire back to the fuse box/battery area to connect to the power supply
Those instructions were terrible for wiring. Took my Dad and I awhile to figure it out but it was worth it in the end. And, no I can't give you any words of wisdom for getting it all wired up.

nope. sounds like that would be all that it is, but the instructions want you to splice into the wiring harness, using a specific colored wire. on a touring bike it wasn't too bad, the wire was easily found, the one that they want you to use is under the seat, in the rear harness.
now, on a softail, it was much more difficult, the wire they wanted you to splice into, there were two of them in the harness that color. one worked, the other didn't.
Nothing like making it "easy" for the average guy to do it. Do they at least tell you what the wire that you're supposed to use feeds?
nope, you'd have to use a schematic for that (if you have one). they pretty much say, 'locate the brown wire with yellow stripe and tap into that' (the colors have been changed to protect the innocent. actually, i couldn't remember the color )

My favorite is when the Genuine Accessory HD part has instructions that contradict the shop manual! I guess perhaps the aftermarket guys don't read the manuals. I remember a billet brake pedal install for example that as simple as it was (unbolt, remove old, install new, rebolt) had parts reassembled in the opposite direction.
you mean the first line in the instructions wasn't "schedule an appointment with a harley davidson certified mechanic"?
Actually, Harley has instructions, including PDFs online, for pretty much everything they sell. Contrary to what I expected, you can go to HD's site and download the instruction sheets to install hydraulic can chain tensioners, for example. I've always found them to be really good instructions but (a) I've never put a stereo on a Harley (and never will) and (b) you have to read really carefully, because there are often notes and sections of the instructions that only apply to specific models and years.
