999 out of 1000 times you would be ok in patching and the truth be told, I'd might do the same thing also. Just one of the reasons I picked up the tire and wheel coverage lately.
Just had my rear let go at 80mph 2up with the OL. Tried to patch but too big a hole. The Stealer was kind enough to replace with a new Dunlop for a mere $353 out the door. He did wash it too.
Patching/plugging a tire is one of those things, you're going to get some people who swear that you shouldn't and some that swear that you should.
I have patched tires and had no problem and I have patched tires and had problems, it's not a guaranteed thing. Because of that, some people feel you should always replace a tire instead of patching but the truth be told, there's risk even with a brand new tire. Not as much as with a patch, but even new tires fail on occassion and get blowouts.
Thank you everyone, I guess I'll replace it. Patching makes me some what nervous I think. It's a pretty big screw and really my only fear of riding is losing a tire around a corner or on the freeway
