Every morning I go to work there's a group of deer standing in the same spot about 15ft from the road on a blind curve... and every day I slow wayyyy down just waiting for one of those b*stards to take off.

I've had a few close calls like that over the years. Not much you can do about it. Although, i do try to avoid the back roads (during the dawn/dusk hours) during the rut season. The deer are much more active during this time.

Scary stuff. I had one leap across the rear wheel while I was on my bicycle. Also saw the results when a deer leapt over the bed of a pickup and landed on the top of the 'A' pillar on a friend's SUV. Windshield shattered, roof & pillar pushed in about 3". Big repair bill.

Never had a deer run out but last July a big azzed brown bear did.

OP: Where in MN was this (like it really matters, because they're everywhere)? I'm going to be riding up to Walker/Bemidji on Saturday and will be doing a few miles in the dark of the forests. I will be on edge for most of that trip!

I try not to ride at night. I pass their glowing eyes all the time, too late to do anything if they did run out. Most of my friends don't ride at night either, especially June and rutting season. I try not to daydream in the daytime. Only takes a second to miss the little bastards. Glad you're OK.
