Decided to post here on neutral ground. In comparing the Night Train and Street Bob what bike is a smoother ride on the highway? What is smoother around town? What is the est range of both bikes in miles?I am just trying to decide between the two.I will be renting both I just want a large pool of opinions. The price between the 2 are not that big to be decided just on that. So please give opinions thx
My guess is that you'll find the Bob to be a smoother ride, as it has the rubber mounted engine. Depending on your height, one my be more comfortable than the other... THe NightTrain will have a more "stretched out" feeling than the Bob due to seat and contols location(s).
The Dyna will probably feel stronger, from a performance perscective....
My wife has owned a Dyna, and now has a Softail. THe Dyna is smoother at speed, and the ride is better. Around town there probably isn't much difference. the Dyna is going to have more power to the rear wheel because it is not using HP to turn counter balancers. The Dyna also handles better in my opinion.
If you are able to, rent one of each and put some miles on them. Then you will be able to pick the one that suits YOU the best. My choice between the two would be the Dyna, but then I may be prejudiced seeing as how the Dyna was my first Harley for the very reasons stated by Bill.
The Dyna is a smoother and somewhat lighter ride, the softtail a little more substantial. You would most likely want the fwd controls on the Dyna. I have them and it's the only way I felt comfy (6'2"). Mileage about the same, the Dyna perhaps a fraction faster and better cornering (IMO).
Unless you are extremely picky, I don't believe there's that much difference in the bikes since both sport an FX front end. An FL Softail will ride smoother on the highway though.

My only concern about the Dyna is I read that when you do some mods to the bike like exhaust and engine work etc.It could throw off the rubbermounts especially the front ones.I read a post that a guy had excessive vibes in his Dyna and the front engine mount had a gap and he fixed it by adding shimms to it or something like that just dont want those worries as I will be doing many mods as well. What is the likley hood of that and has anyone experienced more vibes than what is normal thx
Bullhocky, my dyna was very smooth much more than any softail Ive ridden, and no problem with add ons, I ran vance and hines big shots, but if you plan to add a lot of mods, the choices for softails is 10 times what you will find for a dyna.
