Default Technical question

I will be getting the service manual soon, but untill than here is a question.

I noticed on the Oil supply line that comes from the oil tank to the engine, on the engine side the retainer assembly is freely moving around the supply line... there isnt a huge amount of oil coming out but you can see that there is a really small amout of oil on the crank case. Is this normal, I just got the bike, only 60 miles on it. Is that something I should take back to the dealership?

Push in on the oil line and retainer to make sure they are inserted well, clean the oil off real good, and see if the oil comes back.also call the dealer and make sure they know about it and remember who you talked to their.those retainers will turn by hand.

Yup, you've got a small leak. Take it back, it should be easy to fix . . . then again we're talking about a Harley Dealer . . . my bad. So OK they'll spend several days looking at it and then tell you it's normal. On your second visit to the dealer they'll tell you that you probably spilled some oil on the engine and they'll charge you to clean the engine, but they won't fix the leak. On your third visit there will be a new service manager and you'll have to explain this whole thing over again. He will have his "Top" technician look at the bike and he will declare that either A.) There's nothing wrong and he will not so subtlety imply this oil leak is all in your imagination or B.) That there is in fact an oil leak but that because you fiddled with the connector or because you changed the oil and used Mobil1 Synthetic Oil instead of Harley Oil that you have completely voided the warranty on the entire motorcycle. At some point they will have broken you down and you will surrender and buy the "O" Ring that seals this connection (P/N 11326) for $1.33 + Sales Tax and fix it yourself.

Take it to your dealer. All dealers are not like those in Southern california. Yeah, like anything else there are lousy ones, but not all.

+1 DON'T try to fix it yours self. If you "fix" it yourself & they sell you the wrong o-ring they will know when you take it back. Don't take a chance, use your warranty..
