ARAI, shoei, suomy, hjc

those are my pics in order. you need to try them on, as some fit other peoples heads differently. to me the arai is the most comfortable helmet made. ive worn several brands and kept coming back to arai.

I'had a couple full face helmets. My current one is a Nolan. It is the first helmet I've had that when it comes time to replace it I will buy another just the same. It is a flip face and I love it. Closed up for the highways, face shield up for intermediate and everything up for around town when I want to catch more breeze.

Summers here are awesome so I do compromise in the Summer and wear a Shoe 1/2 helmet but I do love the comfort (no buffeting) and security of the Nolan.

I wear a 3/4 with a full shield, I feel cramped in a full face.

I bought an HD Ultra Jet, it's the same as the HJC A-3, it's a 3/4 with a flip-up shield. Wore it this weekend on a long ride and loved it. Less wind noise than my HD modular and very comfortable.

I have found that you can try on 2 or 3 of the same helmet in the same size and they all fit a little different. Or maybe it's just my head....

Let me jump in here with a strong recommendation for the HJC AC-12 Carbon, which sells here for $289. I also bought a dark smoke shield for daytime riding, so I never need to bother with sunglasses. The shield change system is a 2-second affair.

I wore flip-fronts for years and they certainly are convenient. However, they are also quite heavy, relatively speaking, due to the flip mechanism. Over the course of a long ride, the extra weight can easily cause neck and shoulder pain. In addition, the safety aspect is somewhat in question, which is why Snell still doesn't test flip-front helmets.

The HJC Carbon is extremely light, to the point where you soon forget you're even wearing a helmet at all. As it happens, it is the Harley FXRG helmet without the graphics, so you can go into any Harley dealer to try it on, see how light it is, etc, then order it online.

Good decision, by the way (in my humble opinion).

Got a Bell DOT at Wallmart for $80. Does me ok for cold days with a retractable visor, anti-fog system and good ventillation options. It's rather bulky, though the bike sounds even better when wearing it - below 50 F only.

I have been looking at the Caberg's. It is the highest rated european helmet which has a standard above our snell /dot I believe. I read somewhere that all racers in Europe are required to wear that brand. How do you like it thus far?
