I don't care what advantages liquid cooling has to offer. I will stick with my air cooled Glide until I'm too old to climb on. The air cooled V-Twin has been around for a century or more. It's just a case of re-inventing the wheel as far as I'm concerned.
I understand by 2009 all new bikes will have to be California compliant. I think that Harley will push the air cooled engines well past that time because of the extensive redesign that they have done on the Twin Cams. But sooner or later HD will have to bite the bullet and go to liquid cooling. Like or not the EPA is slowly but surely reeling Harley and all of the others in. I just hope that the all powerful EPA in its infinite wisdom will grandfather all of those air cooled bikes, or thereâs going to be a lot more rebels out there than there are now.

That will be fine with me. I plan to sell my 05' Dyna and get an 08' Dyna. That should be my last bike and Harley can design all the water cooled bikes they want. Soon, they will be equipped with power steering, power footpegs and mirrors, power/heated seats, windshield wipers that come on automatically when they detect rain, and DVD players and backup cameras. Then you can have the option to add two additional wheels and bingo......you got a Harley Cage.
They can say all they want about water cooled engines but I like mine air cooled. I also like having a carburetor. Call me old fashioned but I like it to be uncomplicated and straight forward. My 06 1200C fits the bill perfectly.

You can't stop evolution and progress. Using your logic, I would assume that you are still driving one of the 1st air cooled automobiles, correct?
I don't know how HD can go to water cooling tho, w/o destroying the "look" that makes a Harley, a Harley.
Recall "Project Nova" that was launched in the late 70's to develop a family of water-cooled multi-cylinder engines. If it wasn't for the limited financial resources of the late 70's and early 80's HD would have had a multi-cylinder water-cooled scoot. Great placement of the radiator.

I'd buy a water cooled bagger. No prob. I'll keep my air cooled wide glide forever though. Or at least until some drunken f'ck comes along and f'cks it up like the last one.
