Yep, and they might even throw in shaft drive while they're at it and join the 21st century. The Harley would still be unique as far as I'm concerned and I figure I'd make enough profit off of selling my air cooled Harley to buy a new water cooled
You guys are talking like this whole liquid cooled thing is Harley's idea!!
Harley guys don't like a lot of change. If they did, the V-Rod would be a huge sucess. That being said we are going to have to accept the fact that sooner or later the Motor Company will be producing liquid cooled engines for the entire line.
"You may not like it, but you better learn to love it."
I'll keep my Fat Boy, it's my first Harley but I wouldn't mind having a V Rod. I heard a lot of them at Bike week and they sounded pretty good with aftermarket exhaust. The price of air cooled bikes will go up as people want a REAL Harley. I think Porsche is the last of the air cooled cars however I think they have water cooled heads, I could be wrong here. They have been able to meet EPA regs and have plenty of power. There is already a connection between Porsche and the motor company so we'll see. There will be water cooled Harleys in the near future and the design team will get it right, eventually. It took a while for the V Rod to catch on and I think the only reason it doesn't sell better is because it doesn't look like a traditional Harley

Now that crap they can keep. The belt drive is superior in every way, from ease of maintenance, to power transfer, it comes out way ahead.
At this point it's all just speculation. I wouldn't take the word of a dealership mechanic any quicker than I believe the knuckleheads that work in gunshops. Neither is a good source of accurate and reliable information.
Recall "Project Nova" that was launched in the late 70's to develop a family of water-cooled multi-cylinder engines. If it wasn't for the limited financial resources of the late 70's and early 80's HD would have had a multi-cylinder water-cooled scoot. Great placement of the radiator.
The attached picture will require blowing up to read:
I can't figure out the frame on that bike in the pic... do the down tubes run through the engine or what? Or am I missing something? Also, I find the timing of posting that in the enthusiast magazine kind of interesting...
