Default Replace fuel filter

Manual calls for replacing fuel filter at 25K miles. Dang thing costs $60. For those that have replaced it, how did the old one look? Did it look like it needed replacement? Thx.

replaced mine on a 2008 road king at 27K and it still looked brand new. Before I buy another one I will just pull it out, look at it and then decide weather to replace it again or just clean and reinstall. Don't know if the 08 is different than the 07 because of the larger tank.

I can't say for sure on your bikes, but a fuel filter change on my 09 Dyna requires that you replace the canopy screws with the self sealing washers or risk a fluid or vapor leak.

I have 36k on my 08 FLHR, same fuel filter. I too didn't want to pay the $65 for something that probably HD just wanting to make money. If I am wrong I might need a tow.

Changed mine at 27,000 it was very dark in color and after it dried out it had some weight to it. Can't say the bike runs any different but one less worry.

I replaced mine at 27k and it was very dirty and definitely needed replacing. When you order the kit also remember to get the 10 stainless steel replacement screws.

Late models (I think '08+) are easier and cheaper to replace. No canopy screws or gaskets to replace - just the filter itself and an O-ring. You don't have to take the pump all the way out or disconnect hoses. You just pull it out far enough to open the filter housing. I found one on EBay for $15.00, shipped. I changed mine @ 23k miles and it was fairly dirty.

It's model specific I guess. My 09 FXD service manual specifies the top plate screws ($24, $2 ea. x12) and gasket ($35) must be replaced when changing the fuel filter ($15). Guess I'll find out for sure in about 3k when it's due. Funny how some say their fuel filter looked new and others pretty dirty. I'm getting pretty curious to see what mine looks like. Maybe I'll just do it now and get it out of the way. I'll take pics and post'em up.

On my 09 I changed it at 30k and it was dirty for sure. I have a friend with an 07 with over 60k and he has never changed it....Its like a crap shoot but would want to get stuck on the road....

OK, I was in with my mechanic today and decided to finally replace it at 36k. It was pretty dirty, cost me $60 installed and good for another 35k or so.
