Battery won't charge. Something wrong with charging system?

Most likely the voltage regulator, especially if it's an 07 Sportster!

FWIW. I do some of the work on a buddy's 06 Softail and the service manual does not provide diagnostic info on Alternator and voltage regulator...says "for diagnostic information, see Softail Models Electrical Diagnostic Manual. And fortunately we had not had those issues yet, but it is one more manual we will add to the shelf.

Rather than busting this guys ball over a service manual (or lack of one) someone could check their Street Bob (is that one of the Dyna models?) manual and see if it says the same thing.

i wouldn't jack with it, i'd just take it to the indy.

Yeah. That's pretty much what I did. I took the battery to the autozone to have the battery checked, and it checked out okay. Took the bike to the indy, and it turns out the charging system is shot. Going to get a new stator and regulator. It'll come with a two year parts warranty. Probably going to set me back around $550 to $600.

Problem fixed!!!!!! Cost $692. Took it to the indy. They went to replace the stator, and apparently, there's a slight design defect in the 2006s. The rotor is bolted on instead of being welded on. Some bolts were sheared off, and the rotor wasn't even turning. Burned up the stator and regulator. They put on a new stator and regulator from Cycle electrics, which carries a two year warranty, bolted on the regulator with green loctite, which should hold, and now, we're riding again. Just thought everyone would want to know. They cleared all the codes, and the check engine light and battery light no longer are on. A word of warning: they said to never buy a battery from an auto parts store. Only buy a battery from a motorcycle shop. Don't shoot the messenger!

Had the exact same issue. Turned out to be the voltage regulator sending 0 volts back to the battery when running. That'll do it every time. Replaced it and all is well.....for now.....
