Default Bittersweet

Got a new 2011 RKC today, Vivid Black (is there any other color???) but it's rather bittersweet.

The wife and I both ride and love it. I had a '09 EGC and the wife an '09 Heritage.

I had to have back surgery in March of this year and insurance coverage was fair at best. (I hate medical insurance companies). Anyways, bills happen and we decided to consolidate from 2 bikes down to 1 that we could ride together.

We both put our bikes up for sale, but of course mine sold first (yesterday) and we didn't have any hits on hers.

I was and still am totally okay with NOT riding. However she insisted that we trade in her Heritage and get something we could ride 2 up. We're a little bit too heavy together to ride two up on her bike.

So today we went out, traded her Heritage in and got the RKC. Don't get me wrong, I love the bike and have always wanted one, but it's killing me that she's not riding (her own bike) along with me. I also know it's killing her too not be riding herself.

Really, it kinda takes all the enjoyment out of the whole new bike experience. I'm not blaming her because I know giving up a bike is difficult and she's been nothing but gracious about the whole thing. I guess the problem is, that I'd rather she had her bike then me having one. Especially since for the most part, it's my medical crap that the problem. It's just how I am.

Anyways, I just thought discussing it might help.

Thanks.

I don't understand why you sold the EG if you want to ride 2 up, seems like it may have been more comfortable than a RK. Sorry you had to make the choice at all, but its good to have a great wife, so look at the bright side.

I hate to hear that, but it sounds like you are a good man to worry about her wants first. Sometimes sacrifices have to be made. It was simply her time to sacrifice. It's what marriage is all about. I hope you can get your chin up and enjoy that nice new scooter. If your wife is anything like me, she's probably thinking she can make a temporary sacrifice and later on down the road, she'll get an even better bike that she's gonna like more. Good luck with it all.

So let her drive the bike... You get to ride in back for a change.

You could have sold both bikes on Craigslist or HDF, and bought some older bikes.

I bought an 03 FLHTCUI with 2090 miles in January. So far 3k miles, no problem checked out fine at 5k service. My bike looks brand new. Only reason to buy new is ABS.

I had back surgery on L4 in 94. I use a Nada chair for lumbar support at work. Check it out.

I had both bikes listed on HD Forums, V-Twin Forum, HD Talking, eBay Classifieds, CraigsList and the local paper. The only one that for any interest was mine (EGC).

Our plan all along was to sell both and get used bikes later on. Our second choice was to sell hers and keep mine. But, things don't always work out the way we want.

As it turns out, the payment on the RK is less than if was on hers.

It's all good and we'll get her another bike down the road.

Thanks for the replies.
