Default Heat Management System?

Is it true that Harley's are equipped with a Heat Management System, that will shut off the engine when it is running to hot? I spoke to my Stealership yesterday, and they attributed a problem that I had with my bike as a "sensor" chip that shut down the bike. I never heard of this before.

Thanks

Scott

FB, if you got to the Engine Related area, at the top you'll see a couple of good write-ups on this.

yes- its 'true'. the heat management is computer controlled... the computer will alter the air/fuel mixture (and idle setting) based on temperature.

ive only encountered it a couple times while sitting in traffic- in the summer.... when it was like 100 fookin degrees.

I've only had one of my Harleys go into full blown heat management before I knew what it was. Freaked me out as I thought it was going to seize. When the engine reaches a high enough temp, it actually cuts the firing alternatively from the plugs so you have a misfire feeling. It's all good though, the system is just allowing the air and fuel to cool the top end down. As soon as you gas it to pull away, everything's firing again.

Yep. It's explained in the manual.

I live in Phoenix, AZ and ride all summer. I have not gone into heat management, even in 115 degree.
