My wife and I traded our 2001 Road King for a new Ultra and have noticed that the exhaust is extremely hot on the right side where both head pipes are confluenced. I have been to the dealership and they have shown me the problem(a honeycomb looking baffle) but aren't willing to offer any advice except to replace the whole exhaust. I don't know about you all, but I just spent a 22 grand on this bike and to replace the entire exhaust out of the gate kind of torques me. I have heard just about every thing from removing the baffle to replacing the exhaust from a 2009 model. What about the 02 sensors?
Being a avid Harley enthusiast, I can appreciate replacing the exhaust but really only want to replace the mufflers. With this new setup(the baffle in the main pipe) it doesn't matter what kind of muffler you put on....its still going to sound factory and of course that still doesn't address the heat problem. Any advice?
My heat was coming up and frying me where I didn't need frying so I got the Crotch Cooler from Captain Itch. I was told by the dealer that I need to go for the upgrade and it would reduce the heat. . .and yes I too am not very happy with their solution but it beats walking. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum!
The honeycomb looking baffle is the Catalytic Converter thanks to the Smog *****.
It's not a problem to some, but most of us change out the exhaust right a way.
There are many threads here about this if you do a search.

Your cats are located in the inlet side of your mufflers if the heritage pictured is what you ride, the touring bikes, electraglides and road kings cats are in the header pipes.
That is the reason they put the heat shields on the mufflers on the softails, I have a picture I took of the inlet side of the muffler off of my heritage showing the honeycomb cat.
Hey blusdude65 --- I'm with you. I have about 2K miles on a 2011 103 Ltd Ultra & I took it to a different tuner, thinking that it was tuned wrong the 1st time. He said it was OK, but he never felt that much heat on a bike, ever. Too bad. I had my 09 EG Classic where I wanted it. I should've just bought lowers & kept it. I'm getting rid of the Rinehart True Duals on it & going to a Vance & Hines Power Chamber. I heard that'll help alot.

It really isn't all that difficult to remove the headpipe, cut it right through the middle of the cat, clean it out and weld it back up. I did so and the difference was immediately apparent.
