Default Recommend a good torque wrench?

Have two from Sears, the click type, one 1/2" & one 3/8" drive.
Noticed when checking critical fasteners on allen heads, that it seems like i'm over-torquing, that is it never clicks...kind of like the soft allen socket is "torquing".
Also noticed that it is hard to find one wrench with a wide enuff range to hit all fasteners.

Anyone recommend one of those dial types that i saw...like in the youtube video of the guy changing cams.

I dont mind paying for a good tool

thanks

Wow, that turned out much larger than expected. This torque wrench is about as good as they get.

Default Torque Wrenches

You really need one of each size drive i.e. 1/4"-3/8"-1/2" to cover all the bases. Those things with the dial or just a scale, I call torque meters. They are just as accurate as a click type wrench but you have to eye ball the scale or dial to get the proper torque. Sounds like yours just needs to be calibrated. Supposed to be every 2 years.

If you want to pay for a quality tool, you can't go wrong with Snap-on.

Craftsman typically has lifetime warranty on hand tools... maybe you can get them replaced?

if you are looking for a life time warranty the craftsman only has a 1 year warranty in the torque wrench

I use Craftsman and never had a problem with them. Can't see dropping the $$ on Snap-on for occasional weekend use.

I have the craftsman wrench and have always found it to be right on. It gets used a lot when I'm doing motor work on my classic cars. I was told to apply a little oil to the threads of the fastener before using the wrench for accuracy. And most motorheads don't reuse critical fasteners after they have been torqued, there is a stretching factor involved. As far as the allen head sockets, I use them here in my machine shop for tool and die work and have seen many twist under extreme use. This may be why your wrench isn't clicking.

Interesting. I bought a click-type torque wrench from Northern Tool with a lifetime warranty. So far so good.

I have 2 craftsman's and a snap on. Just broke the head on my snap-on after 24 years. The craftsman's don't seem to hold up. But I use them alot. Try getting them calibrated.
