Default Heritage -vs- a small river

So im riding home from work, weather actually was a bit warm! I rolled up my sleeve and shoved off for my 25mi ride home

About 5mi later i see black clouds speeding in.
About 1mi after that i see terrible lightning, and the sky opens

So i pull underneath an overpass and figure ill camp out a bit and wait for it to let up as i throw my raingear on. It was coming down in buckets!!

BAD MOVE! Not only did it not let up, but the spot i was at began to flood .. QUICK! Within about 10 minutes, 8 inches or so had flooded. cars were slowly passing and rippling the water, it was rising up above my floorboards!!

The rain hadnt let up, but i decided i needed to get out of that spot. Goggles on, fired her up, and off i went nice and slow.

All was fine until about 5mi later i came to a similar spot that had flooded. Some cars were daring it hugging the shoulder, some just didnt want to change it so they sat back with hazards on.

Me like a moron said to myself; hey Self, we can sit here all night waiting for that to recead, or get worse ... lets get through it now if we can. And off i went ...

I didnt realize how deep it was until i was in it! My bike basically acted as a plow, pushing the water .. it was rising as my tires split it and it actually flowed as high up as my shins!! The lower bike was completely submerged, exhaust had to have been submerged though i heard it so i guess it blew the water away from itself. It was awesome passing cars who couldnt make it through, yet i beasted through it like a champ hehe. God Bless HD!!!

And slowly i rode home and here i am

Now my biggest issue, and id like to ask the question here rather than making a new thread .. WTF is with the foggy goggles?? It got so bad that they wouldnt last 5 seconds without fogging up completely, making it impossible to drive. I ended up putting my sunglasses on (mind you its night time) and squinting as i did like 10mph home

I tried the old spit and rub it in trick, didnt work. So what are yall using to help with fog?

Thanks all! Hope you liked my story of tonight. Was definitely an adventure

when our son raced 1/4 midgets we would use shaving cream, not gel, on his shield and it worked pretty good.

I got caught in the rain myself on the way home and my regular glasses tried to fog a bit and all i did was pull them away from my face to let air flow and they cleared right up.. but then you get rain in your eyes at some point.. its all part of riding i guess..

I got home drenched and the mrs said she was waiting for the phone to ring for her to come and get me at work.. I told her i needed to try out the metzeler in the rain and that "ya can't be a ***** all your life" lol... I can't beleive this is the first rain i got caught in all yr and i have been riding it ever day for the last few months. i think i 've only driven my rango 3 x's this summer..

which by the way the metzeler did great in the rain, never a hint of spin or wobble across the stop strips/pedestrian crossings or tar strips in the road..

Default Fog and Water

I had a similar situation while in Michigan going up Rt. 131. I had to turn off and go east, on I think Exit 68, 7 June 2008. at about dusk. Dark clouds, rain and I couldn't see through the windshield. (I corrected it with a Windvest.) Lightening, flooding, giant tree blocking my way, I had to find shleter in a house for sale, sirens going off, etc. I went through a foot of water and the bike kept going. Nothing I ever put on the windshield before I changed it would correct the visibility. AND it fogged up on a nice Sept. morning, in PA. while going up and down some hills on Rt. 119 North of Greensburg.

So your problem is related to temp change and humidity.

There are anti-fog compounds. Rain X makes on but it says it's for glass. So if you try that it could harm the plastic on your googles. I thought I had used it on a face shield and it was OK. However, while at the Thunder in the Valley rally in Johnstown there was a guy selling the stuff called Blaze Anti-Fog and lens cleaner. (www.blazeantifog.com) It's safe for Lexan, polycarb, etc., and comes in a little spray bottle and in a little paste container. I have not used it on my Arai shield but put it on my Ray-Bans and sniper scopes because I wanted a lens cleaner and a stuff to retard junk getting on the expensive lens and to cut down fogging. I have not been in a situation yet to really see how good it is but I know of nothing else on the market. But it cleans well and leaves some kind of finish that makes it easy to re-clean.

Older fella once told me; Use a bar of plain, white Ivory soap to draw a few lines of soap on the lens, then lightly buff it in with a soft rag. He said it was an old fire fighter trick. It works for me.

One more thing: I don't know if my "surfing" that night had anything to do with it, but I had to put new front wheeling bearings in my bike at 42,000 miles.

I was in a similar situation last year. My Heritage handled it fine too :-)

I wear glasses so I had on OTG's...they tend to fog up once in awhile...I just pull them away from my face for a second or two and they always clear up quickly.

Thanks for the good read on your rain adventure.
I have problems with my sunglasses fogging up bad in the rain, I actually found my $2 safety glasses I use to get at Walgreens don't fog up nearly as bad but they allow a little more air flow through them.
