Default Labor costs…

Hmmmm, not really sure what I should do here. I just bought a Fatboy and the dealer would not budge a millimeter on the price. But they did say that I get 200 Euros off of any accessories that I would add to the bike at the time of purchase. Plus they would give me 15% off of the list price of the accessories, ……. Plus they would install them all free of charge, as in not charge for labor.

Seeing as the bike was bought on a different Island, (I’m in the Canaries) I asked if it was ok if I got all the accessories on the first service in 16 hundred miles, as I couldn’t physically see the bike when I bought it. They said fine.

My question is this……. Is the labor really expensive at the dealers? I want new pipes, new handle bars, plus all the cables etc, grips, hand controls, engine guard, footpegs, etc. It’s gonna be quite a few things as I keep reading this damn site toooo much. Lol …….. And does it take a long time to install handle bars etc? Cuz I was thinking of just getting the engine guards and pegs at first, and then getting the rest slowly one by one. Or should I just get the whole thing up front and get the 15% plus free installation.

Basically, I don’t wanna go mad only cuz I’m saving 15% and a couple of hours of installation.

Just want a few opinions, as putting on engine guards must take all of 6 mins, for example.

I never owned a bike before so am clueless to virtually every aspect of it, but before joining this site I only considered adding highway pegs, (as I like the way Harley guys have their feet way out front) and now it's getting more and more rediculous, ........ the more I read the more I feel like adding.

Here it is roughly $60-80/hr for labor. So 3k in parts can be 5k in total.

I agree w/grunt. if you know what you want now, do all that now to save as much as possible. I suspect the dealer will baulk on the deal once they see how much stuff your mod'g.[:'(]

I agree with that, too. There is real value in that labor!! Get it free if you can.

Wow, the Canaries! I was there a couple years ago. What I great place for a Harley cause of nice highway speeds there and scenery. And the run up to the big volcano high in the mountains... how sweet!

Keep that active volcano in place please... that is confirmed as the one that when the West slope breaks off, it is gonna make the all time biggest tsunami and wipe out most of the East coast of the U.S.

Buena suerte!

Demkay...I like your thought about getting a engine guard (smart) & maybe you should consider a oil cooler but keep in mind that on some Harleys a oil cooler will be limited to what fits around the engine guard. Do you get my drift? Always try to stay a few moves ahead of your accessory plans. If you intend to ride in cold weather then a heated jacket is worth its weight in gold.

I'd go for the gusto while the foam is still on top. As for labor cost well thats another matter. A lot of shops have kids that they pay next to nothing to do the grunt work. Most are closely watched but not worth the $60.00 hourly labor charge these shops ask for. Good luck & enjoy the ride.

Labor rates can be pretty high ... Las Vegas charges somewhere around $82 per hour which I thought was a rip ... then while visting NoCal went by a shop in Cotati (Sonoma County) they charge $95 per hour ... yikes!

Get the free labor ....

Yeah, all those cubic miles of debris slope are already at the Angle Of Repose and if a volcano shake doesn't do it then apparently a monsoon like rain will lubricate it to slide. I got some real estate in Montana, if anyone is interested[]
