Fluids = Redline in all three holes, oil filter = K&N with the 5/8" nut on the end which makes removing it a breeze. Only thing I buy at a auto parts store is plugs, I run NGK, if you don't know why then you need to do some reading. I do all my own wrenching and I mean everything. Got the tools, lift and manuals. Nothing like being in tune with your machine(s).
I run NGK plugs, which I get at the auto parts store, along with 10W40 Pennzoil for the primary and Mobil 1 75W90 gear oil for the tranny. I usually get Mobil 1 15W50 synthetic oil at Walmart in the 5 quart container. When at the dealership, I usually buy 2-3 oil filters at a time, since the nearest dealership is 40 minutes away.
I mostly buy the stuff from the dealer. Typically I'm just saving the labour on stuff I know how to do. Thinking of trying to change the compensator which from what I can see might be OK. Small steps when it comes to doing my own stuff as I don't want to break the bike or kill myself if something falls off or I don't do it correctly.

Put an aftermarket oil filter system on mine , picked up a case of MoCo brand aftermarket filters for less than $3 apiece on Fleabay . Screw the mothership wanting $12 + each for one in the same damn packaging .
Where are you buying them? I paid $6.50 for a HD brand 5 micron filter at the semi-annual open house. I buy six at a time. Oil comes from my local Amsoil dealer down the street. Plugs are HD standard.
I don't have the time to be running around all over the place to save a couple bucks on fluids and the auto parts store don't have some of the HD stuff so your at the dealer anyway, might as well get it all.
I buy my parts from the dealer, local auto parts store, Amazon.com, and from fleaBay. Usually I try to keep at least 6 quarts of Mobil One VTwin on-hand, 4 K&N oil filters, 2 sets of plugs, amongst other things.
I try to schedule the pick-ups when I'm in the neighborhood so I'm not having to make special trips to pick up parts. This morning, for example, I stopped by Auto Zone on the way home from a ride to pick up new containers of waterproof grease and anti-seize.
