Definitely natural. I hate cities, absolutely hate them. Crowds, traffic, crime and filth.

The Rocky Mtns are breathtaking to ride through...

Man made can be cool, but ride US-2 through western Montana, Glacier National Park "Going to the Sun" road, through Coeur de Laine ID, into WA, up over the Cascades, over to Whidbey Island--take the Keystone ferry to Pt. Townsend and then follow it all the way to the Pacific coast. When you get there, turn south and follow the Pacific Coast Highway all the way to San Diego.

You'll find some interesting man-made structures, but the parts of the trip you'll remember best will be the natural wonders.

I guarantee that you'll have more pictures of nature than of cities.

{edit}To get back to Michigan, go north east through the mountains, head for Reno, then over to Salt Lake City UT on US-50 (the loneliest road in the United States, you might want to take a little spare fuel)--you'll find lots of beautiful deserts and arid landscape. From there, route yourself over through Denver CO before you drop back down to the plains.

It's all good as far as I'm concerned. Landscape, mountains, ocean views, city skyline. Love it all! It's all about color, light and shadows

And it occured to me that there are 2 types of scenic views--those that are naturally occuring, and those that are man made. Now; I can remember how awestruck I was the first time I saw Mt. McKinley's grandeur;how even 60 miles away it was just MASSIVE. Always thought nothing could top that. But when I went back to my hometown of New York City last month, and saw once again that spectacular skyline that no other city in the world can top, I couldn't help but marvel at man's accomplishiments just in my lifetime alone.

So my question to you is--What type of scenery do you prefer when riding--natural beauty, or man made?

Nicely put man , very nicely done . We've chewed some of the same dirt it seems , I've been a vagabond since childhood bless my mom's heart she couldn't sit in a house to save her life . She would toss all of us kids in the station wagon and we where gone somewhere constantly just see what was there . I've carried that monkey on my back gratefully ever since .

I have to go with both on that one bro , the world is a big place and theres wonders and sights to behold all over it . Off the beaten path I've had some of my best adventures . Mt. McKinley is mystic , you want jaw dropping awe inspiring try the Himalayas saw part of that range when I traveled through China before we went to Mongolia .

Since you asked - I find the answer a little difficult. 1st trip to Northern Cal last year - the natural beaty was spectacular -but the San Fran skyline and Golden Gate bridge- wow. We ride the smokies frequently, but cruising around Charleston, SC. is pretty cool too.
I will have to ponder your philasophical conundrum further.
