Again..what I'm talking about is responsible use of the breakdown lane...not flying down it. And...it would only be if I had to! And...I'd be using it to get to that first offramp right over there....right in site...right there //points arm and finger to it....I'm passing about 10 cars to get to it.
Sorry, but for years I lived on a 2 lane hiway out in the country 37 miles out of town. For years everyone, yes everyone, would pull off the hiway on the breakdown lane to make the turn down their road to allow cars behind them to proceed on. People would all wave at each other as they went by. All were happy. One day county mounties decided we couldn't do that, it was unsafe. Started ticketing people. Now no one pulls off the hiway to make turns. More cars are on the hiway now and get backed up every time someome tries to get off the road. They'll even blow their horn and flip you off. People are in a hurry, and there are always wrecks up and down that stretch of hiway. They still ticket if you make turns from that breakdown lane, or pass in it, to this day.

Some illegal actions **** the average guy off more than others. Speeding (within reason) won't upset the average driver because the average driver speeds. But, the average driver, or rider, does not split lanes.....or drive down the break down lane. I know I don't like it when I see it. It comes off as a bit "all about me".
The thing we (riders) need to factor is the actions of one guy can speak for all of us. Now there is a guy in Washington that may generalize about bikers as much as the OP generalized about cagers. Prolly has a thread on the MB forum entitled "What's wrong with bikers?"
Forget the law - just treat the other people using the road with respect.
Just be careful out there man. Not saying I don't approve of you lane splitting but you got to be careful cause if you got hurt you got nobody to blame but yourself. Remember it is illegal out there so he wouldn't be found liable. Again not saying that you were in the wrong. It is legal to lane split where im from but you still got to be careful. People are a$$hats and don't want you to pass them for whatever stupid reason they got. Every now and then your gonna find one that will take it to the level you saw and possibly get you hurt or killed.
actually he could be found liable.. it is every drivers responsibility to avoid a accident/ crash if at all possible.. by causing a crash, he could be held accountable..
I wouldn't do what he did to you, but I'd still be pissed. We complain that car drivers think they own the road and don't care about bike riders. But your behavior of breaking the rules because you want something shows that you think you own the road. No one owns the road. You're probably just as much of an *** hole as Mr Mercedes

I have the feeling that some of you believe I tried to prove something. I got mad at other motorists who did something that put me in danger (like a woman running the light and almost t-bone me). I don't give fingers to motorists (bikes, cars) or try to block them because they crossed the lane a little or else.
Today, again, I almost got t-boned by a guy in a car when I was changing lanes. I put my turn signal, looked in my mirror and over my shoulder, saw a guy in a SUV far enough so that I could change lanes. Just when I start moving over to the right lane, the guy speed up and my head almost landed on his hood. What the hell?
As many people say, cage drivers are really out to kill us.
The guy in the Benz was being an ******* plain and simple. Regardless of whether Voony was breaking the law or not, it didn't affect the Mercedes guy in the least bit and he should have just minded his own damn business. He's in no position to enforce the law, especially when the law-breaker's actions had no effect on him.
Sorry Scott, you are completely wrong IMHO (except for guy in benz). If you saw a woman getting raped, would you do nothing because the law-breakers actions had no effect on you? Extreme example I know but I believe I made my point.
Splitting lanes IS very dangerous. Many times in stopped traffic, I see people get out quickly for a number of reasons, just for a few seconds but each time that car door swings open. I use to see guys do it all the time in Phoenix and would just shake my head thinking I would read about them in the near future.
