Question Fuel Injection Question

Does anyone know what year the Harleys started with fuel injection? Just curious.

I think it was first an option in 99 and no choice in 07.

I believe that the first year of Fuel Injection was an option on the 1996 touring bikes. I have a 1998 and it is injected.

Two weeks ago last friday. Seriously, I think larsfum hit it with the touring models, and most everything else, except Sportsters in 99.

Why throttle body in lieu of MPI? Is MPI doable on a harley? Any advantage?

The Delphi System is a Speed/Density Port Fuel Injected (PFI) system. Even more to the point it is a sequential PFI System. FYI: MPI, SFI, MPFI, CFI, etc. are essentialy marketing terms. TBI is the correct acronym for Throttle Body Fuel Injection. Throttle Body Fuel Injection is usually less expensive to manufacture; but in the dynamics of the engine, one cylinder can have a tendency to rob another cylinders fuel. As a result, different cylinders can get slightly different mixtures. Since the designer has to be concerned with a worst case scenario, with respect to performance, emissions and economy; the trade offs with TBI usually result is a loss of power when compared to a PFI system and even slightly more with a sequential PFI system.

Optional in 1996 on some models, optional in 1999 for others, standard in 2007 thanks to the EPA.
Sportsters did not have the option, all 2007+ were EFI, all 2006 and earlier models were carbed.

You're just talking Sporties there, right? 2006 Dynas...EFI was standard.
