Found that town of Hell in 1971 when we use to ride with a compass to show the way. Started in Detroit and headed the way of the compass. No hurry or timetable so when I arrived I was never late. Stopped when I walked the beach of Holland (Michigan). No dew-rags or fingerless gloves or biker themed tourist traps/bar. Met some loaded down bikers on the road, we stopped. They said they were going to a party with other bikers and asked if I wish to come along.
Came to what looked like a fill dirt quarry. Logs for seats and fire for light in the middle of nowhere. I am sure I had a good time under the stars but do not know for sure. People in Michigan are very friendly and social.
Now we trick ourselves in believing that spending $150~$350 a night for lodging, buy T-shirts to remember our fleecing by the locals on overpriced everything, police harassment, and trailer jams.
Give me my time in hell (when it was residential and to a tourist trap) anytime. The price of a bottle of liquor or a 6 pack and enjoying each others company for a while. I bet not too many of you people on the forum who really know what biking is all about!
just rode thru Hell yesterday, on my way back from a little place we hang out at in Pleasant Lake. Stockbridge had another bikefest on Sunday the place was jumping in the morning. Gotta love this state in the fall, unfortunately it leads to winter...
To FastHarley, we're welcome to come back to Holland and spend a few days at the Holland State Park on the beach. You probably wouldn't recognize. Fall is a good time to ride here, just watch out for the deer.
