I've seen several wrecked bikes with Lindby bars. In every situation they folded up and did not protect the bike or rider. They may look nice but they do not provide the protection that is expected.
How much protection do you expect out of a hollow piece of thin walled pipe? They serve their purpose which is to catch the bike when it is layed down from someone dropping their bike. I consider them the alternate kickstand for those that think they are going to or will drop their bikes.

I got one for my Dyna after watching my friends bike get knocked off the jiffy in his garage and hit the step cracking one of the engine case fins. They are not for crashing and even say so on the documentation. If anyone ever knocks your bike over...you'll be glad you have one. They are a must have for guys who have little kids who could be trapped under the bike.
If you're looking to protect the bike from a simple drop in the driveway or parking lot then go for it. If you want them for looks I'm not sure what to tell you.
...ouch..what the hey?! You don't hear a "whoops" like that on a regular basis.
His kid was screwing around and after he (the kid) was told to stay away for about the 30th time he tripped over his wagon pushing it into the back tire of the FB moving it forward enough just enough to slowwwwly roll it off the stand. The bike was in neutral. Not good.
