So I went out for a nice night ride tonight, and was zipping along on a two-lane blacktop out on the edge of the Everglades, enjoying the cool night air and lack of traffic. No lights but my own, and I'm in the right lane clipping along at 70MPH, when my lights pick up something in the left lane that's not supposed to be there. As I'm slowing I realize it's a bike lying on its side, and as I make a U-Turn my lights show someone under the front wheel. I park and turn on the flashers, then kneel down to see if there's any life. I discover it's a young lady, with a full-face helmet, face down, not moving but breathing. Long story short, I called for the cavalry, and stayed on the line until they arrived. She eventually regained consciousness, and was airlifted to the medics.
The photos are pretty poor ... cell phone cameras ain't the best at night, but I wanted to show the helmet which I'm pretty sure saved a life. It's an HJC. The light makes it confusing, but the whole left side is scraped deeply and there is road rash on the back. The bike is a Yamaha. It went down hard in the right lane, and skidded and flipped about 100' from what I could see.
Glad you happened by. Those back roads, no telling how long she might have been out there otherwise or worse some idiot not paying attention in a cage run her over.
Good job!
Good for you. I am glad you came a long before some idiot in a cage came flying through there. Hope she is OK. Lots of critters out there at night. Wonder if she hit one? Prayers sent to Her and the Family.
