Depends on the agency, but initial training is two or three weeks, very intense and difficult, with a washout from 30 to 60 percent. After that, a couple of weeks on the road under the tutelage of a training officer, and then usually a day of recurrent training every month. Once a year requalification, pass/fail. Fail, and you're off motors.

Agreed. Contrary to popular belief, they don't get to spend 40 hrs a week training and riding their bikes. Most of the time they are sitting out on a highway, in the heat, running radar. Departments can't afford to waste that kind of manpower and let them just practice their drill routines. But you would be surprised how much of that stuff comes in handy out in the traffic world. It's not just for show.

I wish there was an equally intense civilian training. I've done RLAP but that is such a minor fraction of the training the motocops get.

Imagine how many lives could be saved if we all had that kind of training?

There are two that I'm aware of, but have no idea about their quality or faithfulness to the police motor course:

http://www.northwest-motorcycle.com/

These are usually a watered-down version of the official Police Motor course.

Same patterns and drills, but with much wider/easier cone spacing.

I went to the official Police Motor school. Those Guys mean business.........

Great riding, and gee I hate to bring this up but notice that the cop is not ATGATT. No full face helmet, no armour, bare exposed arms, etc. Perhaps our forum safety preachers should contact him and get him squared away. However, they may not be reading this thread since Helmet is not in the title.
