Speaking to a dealer the other day and he was telling me of a guy who ignored the noises coming from the camm chain area, and eventually it went bang and he had to buy a new engine, the bike had around 20,000 miles on the clock, the MoCo really should have fitted the better hydraulic system long before 2007.
are thre 2006 models bad? I was reading somewhere they changed the chain on them so they don't go through the pads the same?
I ask because I got a 2006 EGC with 55000 miles in Aug, the dealer said the pads were good but I am going to check them when I do my fluids and get her ready for the winter next month... just trying to get an idea what to expect.

I am pretty sure it is only the 06 Dyna that has the upgrade to Hyd
I agree. If I am going to go to the trouble of checking that piece of poor engineering. I am going to get rid of it and install something better. I never understood replacing like for like if it needed something better. The gear drive has it own draw backs but I chose it because the hydraulic wasn't offered. I would probably still went with the gear drive but I haven't heard of failures with the hydraulic yet.

I think just putting in the same POS tensioner again is a waste of time and money...do it right the first time and sleep easy

not hydrualic, but I heard sometime around 2006 they changed to a roller chain which doesn't distroy the shoes like the normal chain does or something like that..

If the followers are crap, then they must all fail which is not the case. Only a few fail.
My son checked his out before doing a tour. He has over 37K on his 06 Street Bob. They barely had a slight groove. He does not do WOT launches, drag race or try to do wheelies. I wonder how much that plays a part in those that fail.
There are some with 100K on the clock.
The majority of his miles are on the highway riding across the US and Canada with me.

Your son's 06 Street Bob has the new hydraulic tensioners. Problem was 99-05 on the Dynas, 99-06 on the rest.
