a doo rag actually has several, if your helmet is slightly too big, it makes it fit better. it absorbs the sweat from your head instead of the helmet liner, helps keep your hair out of your eyes, no helmet? protects the top of your head from sunburn, again, helps keep your hair under control. also keeps sweat from dripping into your eyes (that burns like a ****!)
all that from just a small piece of cloth.
now lets talk about assless chaps and fingerless gloves (kidding.....)

I've got a couple of helmets that are 10+ years old. Wearing a doo rag while wearing them has kept the insides from rotting away.
