Well the old push start the Road King (carbed) is possible but it takes a rider who knows what they are doing and two guys to push hard.
My buddies Road King decided to die today so no fire on the push of a button.
My buddy had the bike in second and I pushed as fast and hard as I could before he popped the clutch, some fire but no joy.
Thanks to the fellow who saw what was going on and stopped to lend a hand.
With the two of us pushing we managed enough speed and power to start the bike on a clutch pop.
What a relief, the 50 miles form home seemed real close after the bike started.
Thanks again to the fellow in the van who stopped in the Daytona area.
The trick is to pop the clutch and pull it back in quick. I push started a 1/2 ton truck (with EFI) by myself several times. Lots of people watched, few offered to help.
i always have push started in 3rd. i am guessing the poster who push started the EFI was due to a bad starter, cause a dead battery it still aint push starting, yet another reason to stay away from fuel infected things

Actually bad starter a few times (to work and to the parts store). The other times the battery was run down from radio or head lights on. Not enough juice to turn the starter but enough for fuel pump and ignition.
Electronic ignition (even on carbed engines) doesn't work with a completely dead battery either.
And everybody hate's my kicker , I love it . My bike battery can be stone dead jump a little 9v battery into the system with gator clips and I can kick her over , been there and done that .

What. Another reason to stay away from fuel injection. I guess that would make 2 reasons then. This reason and cause you cant fix it. Fuel injection is the best thing to happen to anything with a motor. Reliability, incredible fuel economy, instant starting. Ah yes I am going to assume your probably older and resistant to change. Fair enough. Next time you go fishing try paddling across the lake or better yet bust off a tree limb and sail it.
