That's been happening for as long as I can remember, w/ bikes and cars and trucks alike. Remember 60s muscle cars that required you to lift the engine off it's mounts just to change the spark plugs?!?!?!
I think it's a basic course that mechanical engineers take early on in their programs -- 'Check Your Common Sense at the Door 101." When I was in school in the 60s, the ME program has a rep for that sort of crap.
