Ummm. Before you blow a gasket doesnt a poster need to add a comment in order to subscribe to the thread. It either that or some members have their personal setting set so they are subscribed to every thread they post in. So basically they are writing that so they can subscribe to it perhaps.
And getting to this thread I wonder if anyone really cares that their personal choice to post in a public forum in a public thread bothers you. Maybe since it bothers you so much you can try out the user cp functions and remove any threads that have the word subscribed in them. It might save you a bit of aggravation and stress
Most that use that method of subscribing probably don't know that the button is in the thread tools. And they probably don't even care. I know I don't.
They probably do it cause it raises their post count without having to write anything and taking a chance of pissing somebody off.........Well, until now
