Went over the handlbars in 1978. This August I totaled a 3 week old 2007 Electra Glide Classic. Busted 5 ribs in 8 places, banged up a kidney and spleen. Punctured and collapsed the left lung. I'm putting the patch on along with another one:
Anyone know of a online refrence to what patches mean? I don't really need it, but it might help many newbies from looking like complete douchebags at times. Call me crazy, but this is one of the things that drives me crazy and maybe if we spread some education around it would help preserve our culture?

I guess I am asking if we as a community here think it is appropriate to post up a "Nub's Guide" to patches. We have a ton of experienced people here and many have the anonimity (spelling?) of the internet to be able to share in a fairly open manner.
This is dealing directly with patches OTHER than Colors. I will get the ball rolling by posting a picture of the broken wing patch that started this thread.
This means you have put your bike down. In my experience it is usually one of those patches "given to you" by someone close to you. Hence I would tend to wear that on the left side of a cutoff/vest. There is nothing saying you can't get one yourself, but you better have a damn good story and maybe a cool scar or something to go along with it.
I could probably qualify in buying my own, but I won't. I bought one for my dad when he died here in St. Louis in 1967. He was brought back to life...and he earned it. I wasn't born until 197x.
I bought my own patch like that, I know nothing about that patch has to be presented to you, I do know about the Guardian Angel pin and the demon bell should be presented to you..As for what patches are right to wear, I would say anything that has a meaning to you would be ok to wear, I personally don't like offencive patches, F--K Off comes to mind, but I respect the persons right to wear it, a lot of my patches I have made up myself and are one of a kind. or if a rideing buddys deserves a patch with something special on it, I may have it made up and give it to him. I wear a special cutoff when I'm on a PGR ride, all miltary patches from my time in the Navy, my brother wears one from his time in the Airforce..So patches are what you make of them, I like to think that my cutoff tells the rest of the world where I come from and what kind of person I am..By the way, none of my patches offend any 1%ers that I have come accross in my travels. that is always something to keep in mind.
