this is a great and very inexpensive camera that i have used for a while $15.00 and the audio/video is excellent. it takes a mini sd card and is rechargeable. velcro it to any surface and viola!
I use a RAM mount and actually use my Canon A640 digital camera with a RAM camera ball screwed into the Tripod mounting hole on the camera...Then use the camera in movie mode. It does just fine and I have a couple of videos on Youtube under my user name. From my camera they are in AVI format. I use a program (tons of freeware apps) that allows me to strip away the audio track (wind noise) and then when I edit it in Windows movie maker or others I just drop in whatever music I want...
GoPro is definately the plug and play option. They DO take decent video. But they do have a few limitations. No way to zoom, limited use other than POV video, no edit features like on a standard video camera, cant review the video if you dont have access to a computer.
If you go with a small video camera, here's a couple things to look for:
Sony is the current standard, at least in the Skydive community. Always has been.
Be sure the camera can be turned on with the viewing screen closed. On some the screen is the on/off switch. Its hard to manage that way.
We (skydivers) use a device called a 'Cam Eye' that can be plugged into one of the ports on the camera that acts as a remote on/off switch and also gives you a record light and battery life indicator. Comes in handy.
Lots of mounts on the market for handlebars, crash bars etc.
I have a ROLLEI HD Bullet cam. It is every bit as good as the go pro from a video quality point of view, and is also water proof etc and has the still pic option like the Gopro. It comes with more mounting accessories in the standard package and costs about 90 bucks less.
GoPro is a good cam and the in built display is nice to have. The Rollei doesnt have a display. It uses the Micro SD chip which i just pop out, stick into an adapter for my Ipod and I can upload vid to the ipod on the spot. The Rollei supports 16gig SD cards for up to 4 hours of video, and has battery life of 4-5 hours.
I like the GoPro, but for bang for your buck, I am really happy with the Rollei.
