I'm looking to purchase my first HD (2012 Road Glide Ultra) sometime between February and April next year.
I was wondering if you all had any tips (legitimate tips) for a first time buyer?
Negotiating, freebies, prices, accessories, etc............
I live in Atlanta, GA so I have about 10 - 12 dealerships within about 100 miles. Thanks in advance, for the help!
A parts catalog and a dealer t- shirt should be free and insist upon it. Now you can also insist on the service manual be also thrown in for free but good luck with that.
Now if you can change the oil on your lawn mower and car, pass on the extended warranty, otherwise add into your deal.
Also shop for deals that might throw in gift cards for $500.00 or try to work in your first 1000 mile service into your deal. Forget about any money off their asking price, usually never happens.
Do your homework, shop several dealers, try finding what you want, color and what ever dealer installed options like pipes and mufflers then call several dealers and shop the deal for the best price.
Also buy before it warms back up you might have some good luck.
I'd get quotes from at least 4 dealerships. Most do not lower the MSRP but they often will drop the set up fee, have special financing, and or give you a gift card for money off parts and service. Often there are special deals between January and March 1st when sales are slow. I bought my EG in February when they had a $1,000 off sale. By spring time, there's generally no deals at all.
Call up into Tennessee to Thunder Creek and get a quote, and also call down to Athens to the local indy shop down there called the hawg pit. ALSO, if you're really sure on getting one and won't mind the drive, Call Greg down at Adamec Harleys Regency store in Jacksonville. He will do better on any deal that you can get from any Georgia dealership. I went to every dealer in that state when I was going to get my SG and ended up getting the best deal down in Florida.
Find a salesman that you get along with and are comfortable with. Ask for more than you expect to get and don't be afraid to get up and walk away. If you intend to use the service department ask for a tour and to be introduced to the manager of that department. My dealer sells a service card takes care of oil changes, tires, brakes, fluid changes I always get one of those thrown in with the deal. Also neogotiate for a 1k gift card and your first HD T shirt. We normally buy at the end of the month also.

My advice would be, DON'T BUY SH*T FROM THE DEALER (Caps intentional because I was yelling!). Don't buy a new bike, used bike, or anything else from the dealer. Maybe a T-shirt. There are a lot of great deals on used bikes out there right now. Take advantage man. Can you tell I'm still bitter from my dealings with HD dealers?
If you insist on getting that 103 c.i. motor in a brand new bike, I would suggest the following (I can't take credit for this....I read it somewhere, maybe here...sounds like it would work.) Set up a silent auction. Email all those 12 dealerships around you specifying what exact bike you want. Do not include your telephone number, email only. Tell them you will purchase it on x date from the dealer WHO OFFERS YOU the lowest price. Do not show your hand. Don't tell a dealer if they are the lowest price, don't tell them if they are not the lowest price. Let them compete with each other. If a certain dealership is not the lowest price, send an email that says, "Your price is not competitive".

Savannah HD is offering $1,000 store credit w/purchase of "big V". 500 on sporties.
Get a custom parts catalog to review it before pulling the trigger on the bike! If your pocket book will stand it..... any parts in that book can be included in the deal.
You'd be like a kid in a candy shop with a pocket full of quarters!
i have always been satisfied with the deals on my bikes purchased at the dealership.
First understand exactly what you want and how you are goin to pay for it.
If the dealer is more inclincled to discount future purchases in parts or service than list price , freight or set up take what you can get. Dont be a bonehead about where you want money off from take it where the suits in the dealership can comfortably deal.
You are going to spend two g in parts and labor on the harley tax getting bike where you want it and 1000 mile service. If you get the 10 percent off list take it there or 2 g off future purchases take it there. Dont pay freight or set up unless they are extra generous on some other item. If Atlanta wont deal call up north with specfic bike you want and dealers up here will discount all winter.
